Since the beginning of this blog centered around seminary, I thought I should take a few minutes and share some of the tools that I’ve picked up along the way which have been helpful in the learning process.  I’ll feature them one at a time so as not to overwhelm bore you with too much information.

This first post deals with BibleWorks, a software program that is easily the best resource investment to this point in my education (a big thanks goes out to Dad and Mom for their part in this :) ).  Bible Works is a high-powered search engine that allows extensive interaction with the biblical text.  It is most helpful when working with original languages.  Searches that would take hours in an ordinary book can be done in minutes within Bible Works – I’ll prove it in a minute!  Almost every English translation is available as well as many of the apostolic fathers, historians Philo and Josephus, and the original language editions. If memory serves me correct there are over 100 languages of the Bible that come with the software. I don’t have all of them installed but that is just plain cool.

Unlike Logos software, Bible Works has made the decision to focus on the only the text and the tools necessary for working with it.  There are no commentaries/dictionaries/encyclopedias etc available for purchase – that’s not their thing.  They have made the decision to stick with the text and it has payed off in a big way.  They even have a built in way to link to Logos so that you can interact with its resources should you need to do that (and I sometimes do).

Rather than try and explain the software, I thought I’d attach a PDF you can view for yourself.
